Youbet.com Breaks Record for Million-Dollar Day21 May 2002LOS ANGELES--(Press Release)-- Youbet.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:UBET), the leading online live event and wagering company, today announced another record-breaking week. The daily handle record of $1 million set on May 4, 2002, in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby was exceeded, and the weekly handle record was up nearly half-a-million dollars. "We enjoyed incredible success this week," said David Marshall, CEO of Youbet.com. "The atmosphere was charged with excitement as our staff answered nearly double the number of customer service calls received on Derby Day. We were ready for the volume, with an impressive average wait time on hold of only 65 seconds per call. We maintained the integrity of our network while once again exceeding our record for number of network users online simultaneously," continued Marshall. "Our success this week has directly contributed to the turnaround that has been underway over the last 60 days and our enormous improvement in efficiency and productivity. On behalf of the shareholders, I would like to thank the outstanding efforts and performance of the entire Youbet.com staff who have all been contributing far beyond the normal call of duty to help the company achieve the greatest level of success it has ever had." Youbet.com's prior single-day record was set May 4, 2002, the day of the Kentucky Derby stakes race. The largest handle recorded in a week has continuously been broken April 22 - 28, April 29 - May 5 and again May 13 - 19, 2002. During after-race interviews seen on NBC and ESPN, winning jockeys Victor Espinoza (War Emblem), Richard Migliore (Magic Weisner), Mike Smith (Proud Citizen) and Youbet.com spokesperson Chris McCarron (Crimson Hero) were all spotted wearing their Youbet.com ball caps. In advance of the Preakness Stakes, Marshall was interviewed by The Bloomberg Forum and discussed Youbet's online platform. Marshall concluded, "With War Emblem's success as a Triple Crown contender and the publicity we've received, we are geared up and look forward to the Belmont Stakes." |
