Wynn Stalker to Stand Trial14 May 2002LAS VEGAS – As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal: "A man accused of stalking and trying to extort gaming executive Steve Wynn under the premise that he is Wynn's brother was arraigned in District Court on Monday after having been found competent to stand trial. "Donald Eugene Phillips, 47, came before District Judge John McGroarty and pleaded not guilty to 19 felony charges. Most of those charges are extortion counts stemming from allegations that Phillips tried to get money from Wynn by claiming in 2001 that he was Wynn's brother. "According to a criminal complaint, Phillips left numerous voice mails at the office of Wynn, a Strip casino developer and owner of the Desert Inn. "The complaint states that he also sent Wynn threatening letters and even sent flowers to Wynn's wife. "…In late 2001, Silver said, Phillips was sent to the Lakes Crossing state mental health facility after psychological examinations determined he was incompetent to stand trial. After staying there several months, Phillips was deemed competent…" |
