Wynn enters race for NY racing franchise

SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York – As reported by the Saratogian: "In a surprise last-minute development, casino mogul Steve Wynn is joining forces with Excelsior Racing Associates in an attempt to win New York's racing franchise.

"Wynn was part of a group called Thoroughbred Racing-NY that, entered a late bid, then withdrew saying it didn't have time to prepare its business plan adequately.

"Excelsior Racing won a state ad hoc committee's recommendation last fall as the firm best suited to run Saratoga Race Course, Belmont Park and Aqueduct. Recently, George Steinbrenner's daughter, Jennifer, announced that she was divorcing Excelsior partner Steve Swindal, and days later Steinbrenner said that he and the Yankees were pulling out of Excelsior's bid.

"Excelsior appeared to have suddenly fallen out of serious consideration, but Wynn's enormously deep pockets could change all that…"
