World Series of Poker Main Event on record pace for number of entrants6 July 2019(PRESS RELEASE) -- In what has been a record-breaking summer, there was plenty of optimism that the 50th running of the World Series of Poker Main Event would deliver a huge turnout. It has. More than 8,000 individuals have shown up to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and plunked down the $10,000 entry fee to participate in this year’s Main Event during the three starting flights scheduled 3-5 July. Registration remains open until the start of Day 2 play, which means players still have a chance to buy into the event up to 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, where they come into Level 6 of the event, with blinds at 400-800. Last chance $1,100 buy-in mega satellites are running at 10 p.m. tonight and tomorrow, along with a slew of morning mega satellites beginning at 8 a.m. the next two days. Thus far a gargantuan prize pool in excess of $75,000,000 awaits the final 15% of the field, with the winner’s prize expected to near $9 million. The top nine finishers (the official final table) are expected to each walk away millionaires. “It is a fairytale ending to what has been our most memorable World Series of Poker in our 50-year history,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “The WSOP Main Event is the event we all eagerly anticipate each year and to reach the hallowed ground of 8,000 entries is truly a sign the game has never been healthier.” Of course the winner becomes the reigning champion of poker, etches their name in the history books and takes home the diamond-encrusted WSOP gold bracelet as well. An official number of entrants, along with prize pool and other statistics are expected to be confirmed Sunday afternoon. Tournament officials will provide final numbers at that time. This has already become the second-largest WSOP Main Event in the WSOP’s 50 years, trailing only the 2006 Main Event which had 8,773 entries. There is still a chance for this year’s event to surpass the record. Players this year started with 60,000 in tournament chips and were playing five two-hour levels during their Day 1 play. This is the deepest poker tournament on the planet, giving players plenty of play and value. About 75% of the field survives the first day of play, and players will combine for the first time on Monday, 8 July. The money bubble is expected to burst on Tuesday, 9 July during Day 4 play. Official numbers are in for the first two starting flights, with final numbers for today’s flight expected around 3 a.m. Day 1, Flight A – 1,334 entrants — 962 Remaining Day 1, Flight B – 1,914 entrants — 1,421 Remaining Day 1, Flight C – 4,760 entrants (As of end of Level 3 play) — Unofficial, subject to change ESPN, ESPN2 and PokerGO are providing daily television and live streaming coverage from the WSOP Main Event.
