Woodbine's Betting Site Under Investigation

CANADA – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Woodbine's HorsePlayer Interactive betting site, which debuted last month, is currently under investigation by Canada's Department of Justice amid claims by critics that it is violating a law that prohibits gambling on the Internet.

"…On Friday, Justice Department spokesman Sylvain Beaudry confirmed HorsePlayer Interactive debuted without related changes to the Criminal Code.

"…The Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency, which regulates Canadian horse racing, argues that telephone betting has been allowed for years and that its regulations were changed last year to allow bets to be made using any telecommunication device…"
