Wheel of Fortune World Record Set at Mandalay Bay

LAS VEGAS, June 17 (Press Release) -- A Korean soap opera star set the world record for Wheel of Fortune dollar jackpots when she hit $9,487,583.74 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino at 2:30 am Saturday morning.

The 52-year-old celebrity put only $6 into the machine when the bells started ringing. She immediately gathered her family members who had been visiting the resort with her since Monday.

Translated through a friend, she expressed her desire to bring her one-year-old grandson to Disneyland before returning home. She also will buy a house for her big sister.

On this, only her second trip to Las Vegas, she was presented with a check for $474,379.18, the first of 20 annual installments paid by IGT, the developer of Wheel of Fortune MegaJackpot games.

Wheel of Fortune dollars is based upon the world's most popular game show and is one of 15 Nevada MegaJackpot systems developed by IGT. Wheel of Fortune dollars is a three-coin game offering a top jackpot that builds from a base amount of $1 million. All IGT MegaJackpots are paid in annual installments upon verification, except Slotopoly, Elvis and Party Time, which are paid in their entirety upon verification.
