West Virginia Track Planning to Grow25 September 2001CHARLESTON, West Virginia – Sept. 25, 2001 –As reported by the Charleston Daily Mail: "Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center's plan to sink $12 million into an entertainment and convention center is prompting local officials to dream about an economic jackpot. "…It will include a stage, three bars, a restaurant, a large conference room and more space for video poker machines. "…Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said the increased revenue would mean a lot to economic development in the county. "…Officials also plan to put in a state-of-the-art, $500,000 heating system to keep the track in proper racing shape during winter months. The track lost a week of racing last year because the current system -- installed in 1985 -- needed repair. "While the center will take a short hiatus on live betting while the dog track's heating system is repaired, the nearly 1,000 video slots will provide guests with lots of diversion. "Both expansion projects will mean no live racing until November, officials said. The track will still take bets via simulcast of races from other tracks and video poker machines will remain open…" |
