Wenger urges life ban for fixer

ENGLAND -- As reported by The Guardian: "The player at the centre of allegations that he helped to fix a match in Britain in the past two years must be named, shamed and banned for life, according to Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager.

"It was reported yesterday that an unnamed player with a serious gambling habit had agreed to get himself sent off and also persuade three team-mates to collect yellow cards in order to have a £50,000 debt with a bookmaker written off. Such insider information would have been extremely lucrative in spread betting.

"...The Football Association, which has said it will investigate, has strict rules against anyone betting on matches or competitions in which they are involved or have influence over..."
