Washington State Racing Commission Chair to Remain Empty28 January 2003WASHINGTON – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "In his quest to create a cabinet-level Department of Gaming to regulate horse racing in Washington, Governor Gary Locke will not replace former Washington Horse Racing Commission Chairman Pat LePley, who resigned last week amid a battle with state lawmakers to bring expanded gaming to the state's racetracks. "Locke has instead asked the remaining four commission members to elect a chair, which would further his reorganization plan that would do away with both the Washington State Gambling Commission and Washington Horse Racing Commission. "According to the Office of Financial Management, the proposed merger would save an estimated $360,000 in a budget currently faced with a $2.4-billion deficit…" |
