Virtual Stable Enhancement will Help Racing Fans Follow Triple Crown Contenders

16 March 2002

(Press Release) -- Racing fans will be able to track the progress of the leading contenders for this year's Visa Triple Crown* more closely as a result of enhancements to Equibase Company's Virtual Stable, the Official notification service of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA).

The service is available at no charge through www.ntra.com and www.equibase.com

The Virtual Stable race series notification service, developed in conjunction with the NTRA, Churchill Downs, Maryland Jockey Club and the New York Racing Association (NYRA) will notify users via e-mail on a once-daily basis of workouts, entries and results for the top contenders for the Kentucky Derby and Visa Triple Crown.

Notifications will also include a list of upcoming televised races as well as active links that place users a click away from additional information such as entries, charts programs, and editorial content from www.kentuckyderby.com and www.nyra.com.

"This latest enhancement to Virtual Stable is another important step toward increasing fan participation in our sport, a commitment shared by both the NTRA and Equibase," said Hank Zeitlin, Equibase Company's executive vice president of marketing and sales. "The race series notifications put our sport's premier events on fans' radar screens months ahead of time by identifying the contenders and updating their progress leading up to big race days."

Fans can sign up for the free service through either www.ntra.com or www.equibase.com.

Notifications will begin on March 13, prior to the Florida Derby. Visa Triple Crown notifications will conclude with the Belmont Stakes on June 8.

A similar service will be available beginning during the heat of summer racing to help fans follow the progress of contenders on the Road to the World Thoroughbred Championships, which culminates with the 19th running of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships on October 26 at Arlington Park.

"Just as Equibase's Virtual Stable makes it easy for fans to follow their favorite horses, the new race series notifications do likewise for those wanting to stay up-to-date with all of the contenders for the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup races," said NTRA senior vice president of industry relations and marketing, Keith Chamblin. "This innovative service is a great promotional tool for both Citgo Racing to the Kentucky Derby and the Road to the World Thoroughbred Championships."

The initial group of contenders is comprised of the 23 horses in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager and others selected by the NTRA, Equibase, Churchill Downs, Maryland Jockey Club and NYRA. The list of contenders will be adjusted periodically to reflect the emergence of new hopefuls.

The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horseracing interests, including the American Quarter Horse Association, charged with increasing popularity of horseracing and improving economic conditions for industry participants.

The NTRA and Breeders' Cup Limited also conduct the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, Thoroughbred racing's year-end Championship consisting of eight races and $13 million in purses and awards, and the Breeders' Cup Stakes Program and the Great State Challenge.

The NTRA has offices in Lexington, Ky., and New York City.

NTRA press releases appear on the NTRA Web site, www.ntra.com.

Equibase Company LLC is a partnership of The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America (TRA) and serves as the Thoroughbred industry's Official database for racing information and statistics.

Through its web site, www.equibase.com, the company offers an ever-increasing menu of racing information and handicapping products for handicappers of all skill levels, including Virtual Stable which provides near real-time delivery of entry, result and workout information for horses which fans want to track.
