Virtual Chips are Deceptively Simple Temptation

DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- July 7, 2000 – As reported by the Detroit Free Press: "As internet gambling continues to grow, it becomes more important for Internet gamblers to know just what they are getting into.

"The starting point is that you usually don't know whom you're dealing with. Just because a site looks professional doesn't mean it isn't run by con men. Even the sites that purport to rate Internet casino reliability are not above suspicion. I admit to being fooled by one myself.

"What I also discovered is that it is a lot easier to bet virtual chips than to bet real chips. And that's scary, because real chips are considered the greatest invention in the history of casino gambling: Their colorful, toy-like appearance makes people forget they represent real money.

"…Internet gaming takes this "forget it is real money" phenomenon to a new level. It's so much easier to spend chips in cyberspace than in a real casino, it's spooky…"
