Vending Company Guilty of Supplying Illegal Poker Machines27 March 2002TENNESSEE – As reported by the Bristol Herald Courier: "A Bristol Tennessee company pleaded guilty Monday to supplying video poker machines used for illegal gambling at the city's American Legion post two years ago. "Worley & Son Vending Inc. agreed to pay a $25,000 fine as part of a plea bargain entered by company President Jonathan Worley before Sullivan County Circuit Judge Jerry Beck. "The plea bargain also called for the company to be supervised by a probation officer for 18 months. "…The company was indicted in September 2000 along with three American Legion officers after an undercover investigation of illegal gambling at the post in March that year. "An undercover officer was sent to the post and was able to play video poker games and other games of chance, [Assistant District Attorney General Todd] Martin said in court. Police later seized seven video poker machines, gambling records and $7,000 in cash, he said. "The illegal machines were traced to Worley & Son, which also provides legitimate arcade games to area businesses, Martin said. "…Since the American Legion investigation, Bristol Tennessee police have said they also have uncovered illegal gambling at the city's Veterans of Foreign Wars post and a number of private businesses…" |
