UK Lottery Suffers Biggest Sales Slump28 May 2003UK – As reported by the Press Association: ``The main national lottery draw has experienced its worst fall in sales, its operator Camelot confirmed today. ``Ticket sales dropped 12% over the last year, from more than £3.8bn in the 2001-02 financial year to almost £3.4bn this year, although figures for non-Lotto games were up 21%. ``But with the majority of sales coming from the main Lotto draw, sales for all the games combined fell by 5.4%. ``Camelot insisted the fall was in line with the experience of lottery draws in other countries and was caused by launching new games. The record 21% rise in sales of non-Lotto games was led by Thunderball and HotPicks, which are both said to be performing well. ``…Declining lottery ticket sales has meant that less money is going to charities and projects that benefit from lottery funding. Just under £1.4bn went to "good causes" in the past year, down from almost £1.5bn in 2001-02. Camelot said £12.7bn had been raised for good causes since the lottery's launch in 1994…" |
