The Dutch Gaming Authority imposes 600,000 euros in fines

8 January 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Gaming Authority has imposed 600,000 euros in fines for offering illegal online games of chance via the websites www.futgalaxy.nl and nl.futgamer.com. Virtual Coin Gaming NV in CuraƧao, the company behind the websites, was fined half a million euros. An involved private person was fined 100,000 euros.

The fine has been increased for several reasons. One of the reasons is that it has been established that minors, or at least young adults, took part in the games of chance.

The Ksa takes priority against illegal games of chance that specifically target Dutch consumers. That was the case with both websites. For example, the websites used the Dutch language and one of the sites used the payment method iDEAL and the website extension .nl.

The Games of Chance Act, which stipulates that a game of chance may only be offered if a license has been granted for this, has been violated with the unlicensed offer of various categories of games of chance. Online games of chance are currently prohibited. The current law does not make it possible to apply for a license for online games of chance. This will change due to the Remote Gambling Act. That law will come into effect in 2021. Under strict conditions, it will be possible to obtain a license for offering games of chance via the internet. Supervision is then possible, so that players can play protected.
