Study: Maryland County Favors Slots

19 March 2003

MARYLAND – As reported by the Baltimore Business Journal: "Residents of at least one Maryland County are strongly in favor of bringing slot machine gambling to the state's racetracks, according to a study released Wednesday.

"Residents of Anne Arundel county favor slots by more than a two-to-one margin, according to a survey done last week by the Center for the Study of Local Issues at the Anne Arundel County Community College.

"Sixty-eight percent of those who responded to the survey favored slots as a method of reducing the state's budget deficit, while 28 percent disapproved.

"…Not surprisingly, 41 percent said they had played slot machines in neighboring states in the past two years.

"…Still, the support for slots did not come without opposition or, at the least, some reservations.
