Study: Greenbrier Casino's Economic Impact $41 Million Annually

LEWISBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Oct. 3, 2000 – As reported by The Associated Press: "West Virginia University researchers say a proposed casino at The Greenbrier would add $36.7 million annually to Greenbrier County's economy and create more than 150 jobs during the slow winter months.

"The casino itself would be `a break-even proposition at best,' but the White Sulphur Springs resort would reap $13 million annually from the additional guests, according to a study conducted for The Greenbrier by the WVU Bureau of Business and Economic Research.

"…Released Monday, the study based its findings on state and federal records, data from The Greenbrier and a 1996 study by Arthur Andersen, an accounting firm.

"…Casino opponents say the issue is not money, but what they say will be a decline in the quality of life…"
