State's Largest Casino Unveils Over 100 New Slot Machines Friday

16 June 2000

WHO: The Morongo Band of Mission Indians and Casino Morongo

WHAT: California's largest tribal gaming facility, Casino Morongo, will unveil more than 100 new slot machines in a new high-limit gaming room.

The Morongo tribal council and casino management will be present at the event for casino patrons.

The casino presently has approximately 1,600 gaming devices in operation and hosts an estimated 3,000 patrons daily.

The new gaming devices include 64 machines that will make history as being among the very first new token-operated slots put into operation in California. The operation of these devices by California tribes was negotiated under an agreement with the state in 1999 and overwhelmingly supported with the historic March, 2000 passage of Proposition 1A by California voters.

The machines, made by manufacturers such as Bally's, Williams, Atronics and CDS, traditional suppliers to the Las Vegas and Atlantic City markets, are expected to be highly popular with casino patrons.

The new $1 and $5 paper- and coin-operated machines represent more than 80 different kinds of games and will be showcased in the new high limit section of the casino. The area will offer a wide range of video poker games and two giant slot machines featuring nine different wagering lines for a variety of pay combinations.

The Morongo tribe began offering gaming in 1983 and, as a result of its gaming revenues, has eliminated welfare from their reservation and become economically self-sufficient.

WHEN: Friday, June 16 at 12:00 Noon

WHERE: Casino Morongo, 49750 Seminole Drive off the Interstate 10 freeway, just west of Banning. Take the Apache Trail exit. Make a left turn under the freeway and take the frontage road (Seminole Drive) east directly to the casino. 800-252-4499
