Springbok Casino players pick World Cup winners31 May 2018(PRESS RELEASE) -- South Africa won’t be playing in the World Cup, but South Africans from Johannesburg to Capetown will be watching all the action from Russia next month. South Africa’s Springbok Casino surveyed players on who they’d like to win and who they think will win. Brazil and Germany are the favorites for both. Springbok has just published an online 2018 Soccer World Cup scrapbook that shows the results of the survey and takes a look at the teams that will be competing in Russia. There’s also a section on some surprising four-legged soccer enthusiasts. 2018 Soccer World Cup group stage matches start 14 June. 32 teams will be battling for the title. Although Springbok players seem convinced that either Brazil or Germany will be victorious, they also like England, Spain and Australia. The casino’s web page about the Brazilian team reminds us that Brazil is almost synonymous with the game. Soccer is the most popular sport in the country by far. In fact, for Brazilians, soccer is more than a sport, it’s is a way of life, played on playing fields, streets and beaches all over the country. On Springbok’s 2018 Soccer World Cup pages, a video on the team shows why they are so loved at home and favored around the world. Springbok’s FIFA World Cup articles include information on two underdogs that South Africans will also be watching. Nigeria’s team, nicknamed the Super Eagles, has been a top soccer contender since the 60s and could surprise everyone in Russia. Costa Ricans also love soccer and, while they aren’t really expected to win the World Cup, South African’s love them anyway. Springbok is also sharing a collection of videos that show that even African animals love soccer. In one video, two orphaned Cheetah cubs show legwork worthy of Benni McCarthy. In another, Lions enjoy a friendly match. “You might think elephants are too big and heavy to run around with a football,” said Springbok’s manager, Daniel van Wyck. “But check out our video of sporty elephant calves living at an orphanage in Kenya. After lessons from Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, they’ve got some impressive moves!”
