Sportsbook Favors Florida in NCAA Showdown

27 October 2005

NEW YORK – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Sportsbook.com has posted odds on this weekend's key games in NCAA football and no game looms larger than the classic Florida versus Georgia battle. Georgia could clinch a spot in the SEC title game with a win over Florida and keep its BCS hopes alive, but must do it without quarterback D.J. Shockley who will miss the game because of an injury. Sportsbook.com has listed the 16th ranked Gators as a 4 point favorite over the 4th ranked Bulldogs.

Sportsbook.com has USC down as a 5.5 point favourite in a potential BCS Championship game against Texas. Texas is number one in the BCS rankings but UDSC is number one in all the major polls. Virginia Tech, the third ranked team in the nation and Georgia also remain undefeated and can work their way into BCS consideration should USC or Texas falter this weekend.

USC is a 29 point favorite at home to Washington State, Texas is a 37 point bet at Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech is favored by 13.5 against Boston College.

"There's a good chance four teams could finish undefeated this year. So every game for USC, Texas, Virginia Tech and Georgia right now is like a championship game, one loss and your done," said Peter Childs, Oddsmaker, Sportsbook.com. "That scenario would be a nightmare for the always controversial BCS, but it makes the excitement and fan interest so much greater."

USC is a 5-8 favorite to win the national title, followed by Texas at 11-5 and Virginia Tech at 8-1. Sportsbook.com has also posted early Heisman Trophy odds and it appears to be a three man race with USC's Reggie Bush the early favorite at 1-2. He is followed by Texas QB Vince Young (3-1) and USC teammate Matt Leinart (4-1).
