TOKYO, Japan – (PRESS RELEASE) -- America is betting on team USA to win the FIBA World Championship Tournament in Japan from August 19 - September 3. Currently, the 5-1 favorites have captured almost 94 per cent of wagers at Sportsbook.com, the world's largest online sportsbook and casino.

Team USA has trounced their opponents in pre tournament play, showing that they're ready to reclaim bragging rights in a sport they once dominated. While King James and Dwayne Wade try to replicate the achievements of the original Dream Team, lead by Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, many of their NBA peers are suiting up across the court, where the competition has never been stronger.

Reigning World Champion Serbia and Montenegro downed reigning Olympic Champions Argentina 83-64 in a recent warm-up, while Spain beat Slovenia 96-85. Argentina, Spain and Serbia and Montenegro are all stacked with NBA stars and remain 11-2 bets, unchanged since betting lines opened. France, the team with the most NBA players on its roster, other than the Americans, are 14-1 favorites while Germany, lead by NBA MVP candidate Dirk Nowitzki, are 30-1, but capable of beating anyone in the field on the right day.

Despite the US team's recent failures, bettors think the current crop of stars, with a renewed emphasis on training and the selection of a team designed for international rules, will be enough to bring the US a much needed championship - and to do it in style. While the US has the backing of 94 per cent of all wagers, powerful teams like Argentina, Spain and Serbia and Montenegro all have less than one per cent of the bets placed in their favor.
