Sportsbook.com offers Bush's approval odds

21 November 2006

WASHINGTON, DC – (PRESS RELEASE) -- On October 16, President Bush's average approval rating hovered at 38.8 per cent, only slightly better than his worst numbers in the spring. Sportsbook.com, the world's largest online sportsbook and casino, offered political gamblers the chance to bet on where Bush's approval ratings would be on Thanksgiving Day. Clearly the President is not popular among this crowd because today, 86.3 per cent of the money says the ratings will be lower then when they were first posted.

Bush's handling of the war in Iraq continues to be the leading cause of dissatisfaction among Americans. The overwhelming Republican defeat in the recent mid-term elections, where the Democrats won control of both the Senate and House of Representatives, is seen as a direct backlash by voters to Bush's overall performance. Americans no longer want Bush and his regime calling the shots and public confidence in the President has plummeted.

The results will be based on the approval rating posted on RealClearPolitics.com at 1:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, November 23.
