Sportsbook.com Offers BCS Bowl Odds

5 December 2005

NEW YORK – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Sportsbook.com is the first online sportsbook to offer odds on the four BCS Bowl games and has opened the lines with the USC Trojans a 6.5 point favorite to capture their third straight NCAA title. Sportsbook.com has also posted odds on the other three BCS games, installing Penn State as a 9.0 point favourite against Florida State in the Orange Bowl, Georgia a 6.0 point favourite in the Sugar Bowl against West Virginia, and Ohio State a 6.0 point bet against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

"All eyes will be on the highly anticipated Rose Bowl game, but there are a lot of great schools playing in the other three games. These are very lucrative Bowl games for these schools and the fan and media attention on them will be tremendous," said Peter Childs, Sportsbook.com. "Everybody bets on college football and we're happy to end the year off by continuing to offer the latest and most up-to-date odds for our fans."

Sportsbook.com has been offering odds on a potential USC versus Texas Rose Bowl game for more than a month. In that time, approximately 65 per cent of all bets have been placed on the Longhorns. Though this does not necessarily mean people believe Texas will win, it does indicate an overwhelming consensus that Texas will cover the spread and that the game will be decided by less than a touchdown.

In the other games, number 23 ranked Florida State, playing at Miami, and eighth ranked Georgia, playing in Atlanta, will have the crowd support behind them as well as the momentum from winning their respective conference titles. However, Florida State opens as the underdog against the third ranked Penn State Nittany Lions.

In perhaps the most intriguing match-up fourth ranked Ohio State takes on fifth ranked Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl in what is certain to be a classic. Despite the fact that the Fiesta is considered the least prestigious of the four Bowl games, and though both teams had to rely on at-large invitations, this match-up pits the two highest seeds to face each other in this year's BCS Series, excluding the Rose Bowl between number one USC and number two Texas.

"These are two giant schools, both from the Midwest and with a long history of competition against one another. I think this game might actually garner as much attention from bettors as the Rose Bowl," added Childs.

Sportsbook.com also continues to offer odds on the likelihood of Texas winning both the BCS title and the men's NCAA basketball title in the same season. The Longhorns hoops squad, like their gridiron brethren, are currently ranked second in the nation in the latest AP polls. Sportsbook.com opened odds at 35-1 several weeks ago and they currently sit at 28-1.
