South Carolina Voters Split on Lottery Vote5 October 2000COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – Oct. 5, 2000 – As reported by The Associated Press: "A poll released Thursday shows South Carolina voters sharply divided over whether to allow a lottery. "The Mason-Dixon poll, sponsored by The (Charleston) Post and Courier and WCBD-TV, said 48 percent of registered voters supported a lottery and 41 percent opposed it. "…The telephone poll of 625 registered voters was conducted Sept. 28-30 and had a margin of error of 4 percentage points. "South Carolinians will vote Nov. 7 on whether to amend the state constitution to allow the state to run a lottery. Proceeds would be earmarked for education…" |
