Somebody Won $12.4 Million on Lottery Ticket, But Never Claimed It

2 March 2000

Three tickets matched all six winning numbers in Pennsylvania's Super 6 Lotto drawing on Feb. 27, 1999. But only two of the winners presented their tickets at the lottery's headquarters in Middleton, Pennsylvania, within the one-year time limit.

The lottery announced that the third winning ticket expired Monday afternoon. So someone has lost a chance to collect a $12.4 million cash prize.

The unclaimed, expired jackpot reverts to the Lottery Fund to help finance future lottery prizes when necessary.

The $12.4 million cash jackpot is the second-largest unclaimed jackpot in the 28-year history of the Pennsylvania Lottery. A Wild Card Lotto top prize for $14,579,900 expired May 3, 1997.

Proceeds of the lottery are used to help senior citizens.
