Seneca Silent on Casino Location

BUFFALO, New York – As reported by the Buffalo News: "Three weeks have passed since the Seneca Nation of Indians reaffirmed plans to open a casino in downtown Buffalo, and while the Senecas are staying mum on potential sites, that silence is being filled by the buzz of rumors.

"'I wish I had a dollar for every time I've been asked where the casino is going the past few weeks. I'd be a rich man,' said Mayor Anthony M. Masiello.

"The mayor said Seneca leaders have told him they are seriously exploring several options. A decision could come before Labor Day.

"…While the Senecas' downtown shopping list may include at least nine sites, two addresses are attracting the bulk of the chatter: the Main Place Mall and office tower in the 300 block of Main Street and HSBC Bank's Atrium office complex on Washington Street, adjacent to HSBC Arena.

"There has been a trickle of rumors about other downtown sites, with the Statler Towers and nearby Buffalo Convention Center continuing to be subjects of speculation…"
