Seneca Casino Opponents Fight Approval16 June 2004BUFFALO, New York – As reported by the Buffalo News: "Opponents of the Seneca Nation's plans for a casino in Cheektowaga called Monday for an investigation into a letter from the federal government that said the deal had been formally approved. "The letter did no such thing, the opponents argue. "Leaders of organizations suing the Senecas to block the Cheektowaga casino characterized the letter as one official's opinion - far from the last word from the U.S. Department of Interior. "…The June 10 letter is important to groups suing to stop a Cheektowaga casino because its existence was revealed by the Senecas at a crucial time - the day before State Supreme Court Justice Joseph G. Makowski was to hear their suits seeking to block the site near Buffalo Niagara International Airport. "…When the letter was obtained by litigants a short time later, it was clear there was no formal ruling approving the Cheektowaga location…"
