Senator May Have Meddled in New York Casino Project20 July 2001MONTICELLO, New York—July 19, 2001 –As reported by the (New York) Times Herald Record: "Did Robert Torricelli help Donald Trump and Park Place Entertainment kill a casino at Monticello Raceway? "That's what Catskill Development wants to know. "Catskill has slapped the New Jersey senator with a subpoena to show how he may have helped Park Place Entertainment block a St. Regis Mohawk casino at the Raceway. "Torricelli, whose personal and political finances are under investigation, asked the Clinton administration to reject an application for the Mohawk casino at the Raceway. "…The subpoena is part of Catskill's billion-dollar lawsuit against Park Place. It gets to the heart of Catskill's belief that Park Place never meant to build a casino in Sullivan. Catskill believes that the gaming giant, which has casinos in Atlantic City, only aimed to stop competition in New York. "…The subpoena also names officials from Park Place and the Mohawks. But Torricelli is the only one who's required to submit documents of his contacts with Trump, Park Place, the Mohawks and politicians ranging from Gov. Pataki to Sen. Charles Schumer…" |
