Sam's Town Puts $4 Million in Renovation

MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Memphis Business Journal: "Boyd Gaming, which opened Sam's Town Tunica as its first property outside of Nevada, is investing $4 million in renovations that will include 'bringing 300 rooms up to a higher standard.'

"The investment includes reconfiguring the casino layout and installing 200 new slot machines, 90% of which will be coinless.

"Vice president and general manager Ted Bogich says Sam's Town, the last of Tunica County's nine casinos to retain its original ownership group, is making the investment to counter ongoing changes in the Tunica market.

"…Bogich says the coinless slots, in addition to self-redemption units, will vastly improve the gaming experience for guests and players. The new slots will operate under ticket in/ticket out technology, while the self-redemption units will take tickets and coins and exchange them for winnings.

"…Bogich says the renovations will be complete by the end of April and are a smaller part of a total $100 million investment Boyd Gaming has made in its 18 properties in six states.

"…In addition to the room and gaming renovations, Sam's Town will renovate each of its four restaurants -- Twain's Steakhouse, Great Buffet, Corky's Barbecue Buffet and Snacks and Stuff, a casual dining outlet -- to add more seating and improve the overall atmosphere.

"…Sam's Town is also taking steps to upgrade its entertainment offerings. Entertainment is a prime lure for customers who may not normally come to a casino, and Bogich says it also serves as a way to further enhance the experience for gamers…"
