Resignation Follows Florida State Attorney's Laptop Find5 October 2000TAMPA, FLORIDA – Oct. 5, 200 – As reported by The St. Petersburg Times: "Six months ago, Bill Reynolds told reporters that former State Attorney Harry Lee Coe's laptop computer had not been used to visit online gambling sites. "Then last week, Reynolds, the chief technology officer for the State Attorney's Office, acknowledged the computer had been used to visit gambling sites but wouldn't say why he hadn't revealed that in May. "Wednesday, he resigned, writing a short note to interim State Attorney Jack Rudy that said he was leaving immediately to pursue another job. He made no mention of the recent troubles that have plagued the office since Coe killed himself in July. "…Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney Bernie McCabe, who's heading the investigation, said he had not come to a conclusion about whether someone had altered the computer records in violation of the state's public records laws. "…When the St. Petersburg Times asked Reynolds in May for a list of Web site addresses Coe had visited, the gambling sites did not appear. The records reporters were given showed just two sites, both visited in 1998, neither of which had anything to do with gambling. The list made it appear Coe had not visited the Internet for any reason on his office computer in all of 1999 and the first five months of 2000.
