Rangers V Man Utd in Race for New Casino1 June 2005UK -- As reported by the Glasgow Herald: "Rangers Football Club will take on the likes of Manchester United and Birmingham City in the race to land the UK's first supercasino. " Representatives of Las Vegas Sands Ltd, headed by Sheldon G Adelson, the US billionaire, arrived in Glasgow yesterday to assure the city's business leaders that a £200m casino plan for Ibrox was still viable. "The government has ruled that the UK will get just one Las Vegas-style complex, with Blackpool odds-on favourite. "But the Las Vegas firm, which recently unveiled plans for similar projects in Manchester and Birmingham, said the Rangers project was very much alive. Rodney Brody, UK representative of Las Vegas Sands, said the legislation initially allowed for one development of the size proposed at Ibrox, but there was scope for licences to be granted across the UK where there was demand..." |
