Powerball Jackpot Grows to $44 Million18 November 2002IOWA– (Press Release) --The excitement is rising along with the jackpot in America's Game. There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 300,687 players across the nation won a total of more than $2 million in prizes. Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the largest lottery jackpot in the nation will grow to an estimated $44 million. The cash option for the Wednesday, November 20 drawing will be an estimated $23.4 million. The numbers drawn were: 32, 33, 35, 40, 51, and the Powerball was 1. The Power Play multiplier was 2. Four players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, and Pennsylvania. None of those players purchased the Power Play option. By spending an extra dollar they could have multiplied their prize by 2 for a total win of $200,000. Thirteen players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. None of those players purchased the Power Play option; if they had they would have won a total of $10,000. More than 38,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 2 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier. Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels. Players purchased more than 13.4 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night. The lotteries sold $1.3 billion in Powerball tickets in 2001. That translates into more than $400 million for worthwhile state projects. Powerball is now played in 23 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. |
