Powerball Jackpot Grows To $110 Million23 June 2003IOWA – (Press Release) -- The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game has crossed over the $100 million threshold. “Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $110 million! That's the biggest Powerball jackpot of the year and it's the largest jackpot in nation. “The cash option for the Wednesday, June 25 drawing will be an estimated $63.6 million. “There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 652,041 players across the nation won a total of more than $4.9 million in prizes in America's Game. “The numbers drawn were: 15, 19, 27, 36, 44, and the Powerball was 17. The Power Play multiplier was 5. “Four players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, and Minnesota. None of those winning players purchased the Power Play option. If they had spent an extra dollar they would have multiplied their prize by 5 for a total win of $500,000. “Forty players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Four of those players purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $25,000. “More than 68,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier. “This current jackpot run started with the Saturday, May 10 drawing. The drawing on Saturday night was the 13th consecutive draw without being hit. Almost 4.9 million Powerball players across the nation have won prizes since this jackpot run started in early May. “Players purchased more than 25 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night. “The lotteries sold $1.6 billion in Powerball tickets in 2002. That translates into more than $480 million for worthwhile state projects. “Powerball is now played in 23 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Vermont will begin selling Powerball tickets next month. |
