Powerball Jackpot at $54 Million2 May 2002DES MOINES, Iowa – (Press Release) -- The biggest lottery jackpot in the country is still growing. There were no Powerball jackpot winners Wednesday but 312,980 players across the nation won a total of more than $2.5 million in prizes in America's Game. Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's Powerball drawing Saturday's jackpot will be an estimated $54 million. The cash option for the Saturday, May 4 drawing will be an estimated $29.7 million. The numbers drawn were: 3, 26, 32, 45, 48 and the Powerball was 6. The Power Play multiplier was 5. Four players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The winning tickets were sold in Arizona, Minnesota, Missouri, and New Hampshire. None of the winning players purchased the Power Play option for $1. If they had, the prize would have been $500,000! Thirty-four players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Four of those players purchased the Power Play option and multiplied their prize by five for a total prize of $25,000! Almost 20,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier. Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels. Players purchased more than 11 million tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night. The lotteries sold $1.3 billion in Powerball tickets in 2001. That translates into more than $400 million for worthwhile state projects. Powerball is played in 21 states and the District of Columbia. Pennsylvania will begin selling Powerball tickets in the summer of 2002. |
