PokerStars celebrates two tournament anniversaries

15 January 2018

(PRESS RELEASE) -- On Sunday, February 4, PokerStars is marking the anniversaries of two of its biggest and most well-loved online poker tournaments, the Sunday Million and Sunday Storm. In celebration, the two prestigious online events will guarantee a combined $11 million in prizes, with plenty of routes for players to qualify.

Played by more than 1.2 million players since it began, the Sunday Storm celebrates its 7th anniversary at 1 p.m. on 4 February with a $1 million guarantee, including a minimum of $100,000 for first place. The Sunday Million, which first appeared on 6 March 2006, marks its 12th birthday at 2 p.m. the same day with a guaranteed prize pool of $10 million, including $1 million for first place.

Plenty of routes to qualify
Players can buy in directly today ($11 for the Sunday Storm, $215 for the Sunday Million) or play their way to a seat for much less via a range of satellites and promotions at PokerStars.

Spin & Gos: Players can win their entry to the $10 million guaranteed Sunday Million in just a few minutes through special edition $6 Spin & Go tournaments. On offer are $215 Sunday Million Anniversary entries, $22 Sunday Million Anniversary satellite tickets and $11 Anniversary Sunday tickets. $11 Anniversary Sunday tickets can be used to play the Sunday Storm 7th Anniversary tournament or in $11 Sunday Million Anniversary qualifiers.

In addition to the usual satellites, over 2,500 seats are up for grabs on the day of the events via a wide range of extra qualifiers:
  • Sunday Storm Mega Satellite: 10 a.m., $1.10, 500 seats
  • Sunday Million Mega Satellite: 11 a.m., $11, 250 seats
  • Sunday Storm Deadline Satellite: 12:15 p.m., $1.10, 250 seats
  • Sunday Million Deadline Satellite: 1:01 p.m., $11, 1,000 seats

  • Sunday Million Last Chance Satellite: 2:01 p.m., $27, 250 seats
Players who get knocked out of either anniversary tournament will have the option to re-enter up to three times, keeping the dream of winning life-changing money alive.

Platinum Pass up for grabs
Players who make the money in both tournaments will be entered into a single freeroll to win one of two Platinum Passes to the PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold'em Championship, a $25,000 buy-in poker event that will be held in the Bahamas during 6-10 January 2019. The freeroll will start shortly after both tournaments are in the money and award Platinum Passes worth $30,000 each to the top two finishers. The next 50 finishers will receive $11 Sunday Storm tickets.

Sunday Million and Sunday Storm history
The first ever Sunday Million took place on 6 March 2006. It featured 5,893 players, a total prize pool of $1,178,600, and was won by "aaaaaaaa" from Canada for $173,843.50. Despite the vast number of entrants over the years, only 11 players can boast of two prestigious Sunday Million titles to their name, including "Diegoaiz," Jesper "KipsterDK" Hougaard, Rob "robtinnion" Tinnion and Kevin "kevsteele" Steele. Will the 12th anniversary Sunday Million crown another double winner?

Last year's $10 million guaranteed Sunday Million 11th anniversary tournament was won by Panamanian "Xavi666," who beat a field of 55,835 entrants (including re-entries) to pocket $1,093,204.63. Last year's Sunday Storm 6th anniversary tournament was won by Brazilian "edg40," who beat a field of 131,715 entrants (including re-entries) to take home $1,093,204.63.
