Pennsylvania Senator Proposes Slot Plan

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "A proposal by Pennsylvania state Senator Vince Fumo (D-Philadelphia) currently circulating at the state Capitol in Harrisburg would prevent companies, including Penn National Gaming, from having financial control of more than one slots facility.

"Fumo's plan would bar any company from owning more than 20% of a second slots operation in the state. Should the legislation pass with Fumo's provision, Penn National Gaming, which operates both Penn National Race Course and Pocono Downs harness track, would be forced to sell its controlling interest in one of its eligible tracks before receiving a slots license at the other, the Patriot-News reports.

"…Kevin DeSanctis, president and chief operating officer of Penn National, viewed Fumo's proposal as an affront to his company, which he said has invested millions of dollars in the two tracks as well as employed hundreds of state residents of many years…"
