Payday for Bucs Fans

27 January 2003

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Tampa Tribune: "The slip of paper in Gary Bayes' wallet reminds him of the faith he has in his beloved Bucs.

"Last February, on a trip to Las Vegas, the 46-year-old Seminole man placed a $50 wager at the Golden Nugget casino that the Bucs would win Super Bowl XXXVII.

"It was a 28-1 shot.

"…Today, Bayes will jump in his rental car and drive to Las Vegas to collect his $1,400 winnings.

"…Bayes won't be the only Bucs fan in San Diego feeling richer Sunday after the Bucs' 48-21 victory against the Oakland Raiders.

"Around Qualcomm Stadium, long- suffering fans enjoyed the sweet, delayed vindication of victory.

"…For fans who made the long and expensive cross-country trip, a Super Bowl victory made it worthwhile.

"…`I just wish John McKay was here to see this,' said Carol Kavanaugh, 64, of Parrish. `I think he pulled a couple of strings from upstairs for this one.'"
