Ottumwa Casino Plan Includes Counseling

IOWA – As reported by the KVTO-3 News: "Each year, about 3-million Americans are diagnosed as being pathological gamblers, that's according to the National Council on Problem Gambling. So city leaders in Ottumwa are thinking ahead when it comes to docking a riverboat casino in town. Members of the River Hills Riverboat Commission drew up plans for the casino, including funds for a full time gambling counselor.

"While adding a river boat casino to Ottumwa doesn't automatically mean there will be problem gamblers, local health workers say the forethought is a winning idea.

"…That counselor would have offices at Ottumwa Regional, but the hospital would not incur any costs. That's because casino plans include funding both the salary and benefits for the position…"
