Online Casinos Benefit from AC Shut Down

6 July 2006

NEW YORK – (PRESS RELEASE) -- With the New Jersey government shut down for the fifth straight day, causing the first closure of the city's casinos in more than a quarter century, gamblers have not missed a beat, turning to online casinos like Sportsbook.com for their gambling entertainment.

"We've experienced a significant increase in the amount of casino and poker related revenue on our site today from our customers in and around the Atlantic City area," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director Sportsbook.com.

With the government reportedly looking at a loss of approximately $1.3 million a day in taxes, which it generates from the state's 12 casinos, the loss of traffic to online casinos is of significant concern.

"One of the benefits of online gambling and what makes our business so successful is the fact that people can enjoy what we have to offer at any time and from anywhere - we're never closed," added Czajkowski.

In addition to casino games and poker, Sportsbook.com also offers people the chance to wager on horse racing from around the world, another area of the web site that has seen increased traffic given the closure of race tracks in Atlantic City.
