Oneidas Sue Over Patents12 July 2002WASHINGTON – As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "The Oneida Indian Nation is suing a competitor in federal court in Seattle, claiming another manufacturer of electronic gambling machines has infringed on the nation's patents, according to the lawsuit. "The nation holds two patents on computerized video game systems, and builds the games through its subsidiary company, Standing Stone Gaming of Vernon. The Washington State Gambling Commission two years ago gave the nation a license to manufacture games in that state. "The lawsuit charges Multimedia Games of Texas with the `manufacture, use, sale, importation and/or offer for sale of gaming products' protected by the Oneida patents. The suit asks a judge to stop Multimedia from making or selling any games that infringe on the Oneida patents, and for unspecified damages. "…The two patents held by the Oneidas involve video game systems with a central computer network that controls the games and tracks players' accounts…" |
