Oklahoma Tribe to Build Casino

MIAMOI, Oklahoma – As reported by the Joplin Globe: "The Peoria Tribe of Oklahoma is planning to build a $5 million casino and entertainment center on tribal land near the Will Rogers Turnpike.

"In addition to bingo, gaming machines and off-track, pari-mutuel betting, the 50,000-square-foot center will include a 1,600-seat auditorium for concerts, boxing and other events.

"`We're looking at making this a complete entertainment center, rather than just a casino,' John Froman, chief of the tribe, said Monday.

"…`We feel that we can be competitive because of our location, next to the turnpike, and the variety of activities we hope to offer,' Froman said.

"…Froman said the facility will employ between 200 and 300 people, and plans are to have it open in the late summer or early fall of 2004…"
