Ohio Woman Sentenced for Using Another Person's Credit Card for Bingo Games25 July 2001PAINESVILLE, Ohio – July 24, 2001 -- As reported by the (Cleveland) News-Herald: ``A Painesville woman was sentenced Monday to two years probation for buying more than $26,000 in instant bingo cards using an elderly woman's credit card. ``But visiting Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert E. Feighan has some other crooks he would like to get his hands on. These would be the bingo parlor owners who claim they are raising money for charity, but pocket the proceeds. ``…In the case before Feighan, Judith A. Laux, 49, of 557 W. Jackson St., was in court to face charges for misuse of a credit card for buying $26,000 in instant bingo tickets at a Painesville Township parlor. ``…Laux's attorney, Laura DePledge, said her client was nervous and told Feighan she suffers from a gambling addiction. ``After he was done with her, Feighan has some questions for Assistant Lake County Prosecutor Paul Kaplan about instant bingo parlors and whether or not they are legal. ```They are legal if all the money goes to charity,' Kaplan said. ``…`The court would be interested to hear what, if anything is being done to put these kinds of operations out of business,' Feighan said. ``…In recent months, law enforcement officials have been trying to crack down on shady bingo establishments…" |
