NTRA to Call for Audit of Thousands of Multirace Wagers

NEW YORK – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: ``Following up on the investigation of the Breeders' Cup Ultra Pick Six, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's Wagering Technology Working Group plans to call for a review of more than 1,000 pick four and pick six wagers placed around the nation within the last year.

```The wagering technology group is discussing a number of options,' NTRA spokesman Chip Tuttle said on Monday. "There is virtually unanimous agreement that something has to be done to help everyone understand the scope of the problem, and the task force is currently working through the mechanics of having to do that."

``Racing officials have not yet stated that they believe there is a widespread problem with multirace wagers having been unfairly manipulated into winners. However, they do believe that three former Drexel University fraternity brothers rigged several multirace wagers, including the Ultra Pick Six, which would have yielded a payoff of about $3.1-million to one of the trio, Derrick Davis.

``…The planned audit of multirace wagers will involve tracks throughout the country, and the NTRA hopes for assistance from all three tote companies as well as the nation's largest racetrack owners, Magna Entertainment Corp., Churchill Downs Inc., and the New York Racing Association…"
