NPL event wraps up

21 August 2007

LONDON, England -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- A successful week of high-stakes poker came to a close on Saturday as the National Poker League's (NPL) UK Poker Open ended in London. Leading US poker publication Bluff Magazine and the #1 European poker publication Bluff Europe were the official magazines of the week long series of tournaments.

The event ran from Sunday, August 12th until Saturday, August 18th at London's Loose Cannon poker club and sports bar. The Open featured five events over the week culminating in a 2-day £2500 main event.

As official magazines of the NPL UK Open, Bluff and Bluff Europe were on hand during the week of poker to distribute magazines to players and spectators, offer subscriptions and supply free t-shirts. New subscribers received a 10% discount.

The week-long festival attracted established pros Tony G, Mel Judah, Dave Colclough and Bluff Europe contributor Jennifer Tilly, among others. British pro Dave Colclough had a superb week, winning two of the smaller tournaments and cashing in a third. The feature tournament, the £2500 main event, finished late on Saturday night and included some strong amateur players including Lee Watts from Sunderland playing his first ever live tournament.

The winner was Peter Gould who bagged the 1st prize of £32,500.

The National Poker League is the newest and most aggressive poker playing organization in the world. Their tournaments and television shows are aimed at the younger generations of poker players and fans, along with legendary poker pros.

Focused on servicing the global poker playing community, NPL has partnered with international host casinos to promote and establish qualifying satellite tournaments throughout the year. NPL's comprehensive 2007 circuit will lead to televised World Cups. The Asia Open in October and the 2nd annual "Vegas Open" in November follow the UK Open.

"NPL is a hot new name on the poker circuit," said Michael Caselli, Editor-in-Chief of Bluff Europe. "To be the official magazines of the UK Open showed the confidence that the NPL has in Bluff and Bluff Europe."

"It is very exciting to have forged a lasting relationship with such an influential magazine in the poker industry, and the NPL is absolutely thrilled about working with Bluff on an international level," added NPL's Director of Public Relations, Andy Liakos.
