Norwegian Aid Groups Bet on Online Gambling

22 January 2002

"Fans of one-armed bandits and other games can now log on to the trial website, Tivoli, organized by the Red Cross and Cancer Society, among others, in the hope that the site will bring in much-needed money.

"…Gamblers can try their hand here at Black Jack, roulette or Scratch and Win, the three games currently available on the site. An internet connection and a credit card are all you need to access this cyber-gambling den, which opened Friday.

"…Indeed, the site could leave hardened gamblers disappointed: players cannot bet more than 1,500 kroner (US$167) per week.

"…The site is only open between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm.

"…It is not yet known how much money the site will generate for the 10 organisations involved, who will share the profits…"
