NLRB Issues Complaint Against Strip Casino4 August 2000LAS VEGAS, Nevada-- Aug. 4, 2000--The National Labor Relations Board issued a two-count complaint against the Stardust hotel-casino, accusing the property of improperly terminating union employees. The complaint was filed after charges were leveled by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts Local 720. A hearing on the charges is set for Nov. 13 in Las Vegas. In the complaint, the NLRB alleged that the Stardust laid off sound deck employees on Jan. 24 without "prior notice to the union and without having afforded the union an opportunity to negotiate and bargain as the exclusive representative (of the employees)." Rob Stillwell, spokesman for Stardust owner Boyd Gaming Inc., said the company could not comment, since it was in contract negotiations with the union and had not seen the NLRB complaint. |
