NFL Blitzes Perceived Cybersquatters8 December 2000NEW YORK -- Dec. 8, 2000 – As reported by the Associated Press: "The lawsuit against Ken Miller and his `NFL Today' sites was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. It alleges that the sites promote gambling, project favorites for each week's games and provide direct links to gambling sites. "An NFL news release said the lawsuit was believed to be one of the first, if not the first, to be brought under the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act of the Lanham Act signed into law last week by President Clinton. "…Miller, in a telephone interview from Clearlake Park, Calif., said he was upset by the lawsuit because he did not believe he was doing anything wrong. "…The lawsuit said three Web sites infringe on the `NFL' trademark because the site names begin with those letters. The suit also noted that the full name `NFL Today' takes advantage of the name of the CBS television show broadcast under the same title. "…Miller said he considered his Web sites online publications offering news information and opinions. He said he started them two football seasons ago because he loved football. "…He said his links to gambling sites were no different than links to gambling sites provided by other publications…." |
