New York Lawyer Seeking Seneca Casino Paper

ALBANY, New York - As reported by the Record: "A lawyer representing local anti-gambling activists is using the state's Freedom of Information Law to get documents from Gov. George Pataki's administration.

"Sunday, Pataki signed a compact with the Seneca Nation of Indians allowing Casino gambling in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. But lawyer Cornelius D. Murray said that compact doesn't contain any provisions guaranteeing the rights of organized labor at the new casinos.

"...He's also interested in agreements and memorandums of understanding relating to civil law at the new casinos and how much liability insurance the casino must carry.

"…`I'm not sure the documents exist,' Murray said. `But a compact can't be enforced without them.'

"…Murray is representing Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce President Joseph Dalton; the Rev. Jay Ekman, pastor of the Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church in Saratoga Springs, and others in a lawsuit designed to block more Indian casinos, video lottery terminals at the Saratoga Equine Sports Center and the state's participation in multi-state lotteries…"
