New Jersey Governor Celebrates 25 Years of Casino Gaming at Conference

25 November 2002

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – (Press Release) -- Gov. James E. McGreevey will lead a host of public dignitaries and gaming industry executives at the 7th Annual Mid-Atlantic Gaming Congress to celebrate the 25th anniversary of casino gaming in New Jersey.

"This year's conference coincides with the anniversary of the rebirth of Atlantic City, which began in May 1978 when the first legal casino in the United States outside of Nevada was open for business," said Lloyd D. Levenson, a conference organizing sponsor and senior partner in the Atlantic City law firm of Cooper Perskie April Niedelman Wagenheim & Levenson. "We are thrilled that the governor has seen fit to join in this anniversary conference. It underscores the importance of Atlantic City and the casino industry to the entire state."

The conference will be held May 21, 2003 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.

Other speakers in a growing list of participants will include state Sen. William Gormley of Atlantic County, Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford, Wallace Barr, president and CEO of Park Place Entertainment, Inc.; William S. Boyd, chairman and CEO of Boyd Gaming Corp.; Paul E. Rubeli, chairman and CEO of Aztar Corp.; and a special guest, I.G. "Jack" Davis, who was president of Resorts International when it opened its doors on that momentous day in May 1978.

"The Mid-Atlantic Gaming Congress built its reputation on looking ahead, and that remains our focus," said Michael Pollock, publisher of Michael Pollock's Gaming Industry Observer, an organizing sponsor. "But we must also glean important lessons from the past. Gaming's roadmap to the future began in 1978."

The conference will feature panels of leading Wall Street analysts, top regulators from across North America and the highly praised Industry Leaders Forum.

Organizing sponsors of the conference are: Gaming Industry Observer, an award-winning newsletter and research service that tracks trends that impact the gaming industry; the law firm of Cooper Perskie April Niedelman Wagenheim & Levenson, P.A., an Atlantic City firm with one of the world's leading gaming practices; the architectural design firm of Sykes O'Connor Salerno Hazaveh, based in Atlantic City, with global experience in gaming; and the accounting firm of Ernst & Young, LLP, recognized for its expertise in gaming and entertainment.
