New Jersey Gaming Cops Want Crime Boss Banned

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "A casino hotel is no place for the reputed leader of the Philadelphia organized crime family, the state's gaming cops told the Casino Control Commission on Monday.

"More than 17 months after spotting Joseph `Uncle Joe' Ligambi at Caesars Atlantic City, the Division of Gaming Enforcement filed a petition to add him to the Exclusion List.

"If the commission supports the DGE, Ligambi could no longer set foot inside any casino hotel here. Ligambi would have 30 days to request a hearing on the commission's preliminary decision.

"…Although Ligambi was spotted at Caesars on March 12, 2001, the DGE is just now seeking his exclusion because `it takes a while' to gather arrest records and complete the investigation, spokeswoman Kerry Hand said.

"…In his petition, Assistant Attorney General George Rover said that Ligambi seeks to lead the Philadelphia organized crime family, formerly known as the Bruno/Scarfo crime family.

"Authorities have identified Ligambi as a longtime mobster, alleging that he's engaged in illegal gambling, loansharking, extortion and racketeering, Rover said…"
