National Fraud Center to Address Internet Gambling Symposium

27 November 2000

HORSHAM, Pennsylvania -- (Press Release) -- Nov. 27, 2000 -- William R. Kisby, vice president of the National Fraud Center's gaming division, and Fredric E. Gushin, founder of Spectrum Gaming Group, will join industry experts from 30 countries at the Fourth Annual International Symposium On Internet Gambling Law & Management on Nov. 28 in Antigua, which is considered the Internet gambling capital of the world.

Kisby, former supervisor with the Casino Intelligence Unit of the New Jersey State Police, and Gushin, former assistant director and assistant attorney general with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, will address the conference on ``Internet Gaming Regulatory Issues.'

``A serious battle is brewing between the traditional gaming industry and the Internet gaming community,' said Kisby. ``It is important that the international law enforcement community and governmental regulatory bodies establish regulatory structures to oversee online gaming and understand the complex issues involved in this increasingly popular part of the gaming industry.'

The theme of this year's symposium, which will be held November 26-28, is ``Offshore vs. Onshore Gaming: The Battle Heats Up.' The focus will be on new challenges facing the industry as a result of intensified global competition for online gamblers.

``In addition to being one of the fastest growing areas of Internet commerce, online gaming is also one of the most difficult to control,' said Gushin. ``There is still much debate among governments on how the industry will be regulated and, once it is regulated, how to enforce those regulations.'

The National Fraud Center, a division of Lexis-Nexis Risk Solutions Group, and Spectrum Gaming Group joined forces a year ago to help governments and gaming companies regulate gambling on the Internet.
